How to make your word search
- Pick a ready-made theme or type your own words (one per line or separated by commas).
- Choose the grid size and the level.
- Play on screen by dragging across the letters, or tap Print to get just the puzzle page, with a line for name and date. Check “with answer key” to print the solution on a second page.
Every puzzle has a number: the copied link opens exactly the same grid, so a whole class can play the same one.
Levels
| Level | Directions | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | → and ↓ | Pre-K to 1st grade |
| Medium | →, ↓ and diagonals | Confident readers |
| Hard | all, including backwards | Older kids and adults |
For teachers
Use the sight words theme for early readers, switch to capital letters for kids still learning lowercase, and make the grid bigger for older students. Holiday themes (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day) are ready for the season. The printout is clean, with no menus and no ads.
Add your own background photo
Open More options → Background photo and choose a JPG, PNG or WebP photo up to 20 MB. Adjust its opacity, fit and position. A light background keeps the letters and numbers easy to read.
Your photo appears in the preview, printed pages and PDF, including the answer key. It is processed in your browser, never uploaded to Lexiwi and never included in shared links. Choose it again after reloading or closing the page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print the word search?
Tap Print / save as PDF. Choose Letter or A4 under More options. Only the puzzle page prints, without menus. To include the solution, check Print with answer key: it goes on a second page.
How many words fit?
It depends on the grid. A 12 × 12 grid comfortably fits 10 to 15 words; if a word doesn't fit, the maker tells you which one.
Can kids play on a phone or tablet?
Yes: drag a finger across the letters of a word. Found words get marked in the grid and crossed off the list.
Can I use spaces or numbers?
Letters only. Spaces and punctuation are removed, so ice cream goes into the grid as ICECREAM.
Can I download the worksheet with my photo?
Yes. Add your photo under More options, then select Print / save PDF. Choose Save as PDF in your browser. The downloaded file includes the photo; the page link does not.
